Reading the place

The analysis maps archaeological areas, the wall of the Temple Mount, roads, pedestrian routes and squares, and the four quarters of the Old City. It shows a plaza that is hard to reach from the city around it.

Four strengths

The project starts from four qualities of the place: the meeting of religions, the exchange of cultures, the Western Wall as a place of worship, and its interest for visitors. The intervention is shaped to keep all four visible and accessible.

The intervention

A scheme links the old city with the Western Wall through the new building. An exploded axonometric explains its levels, and environmental sections show how it sits in the surrounding fabric.
